Afghanistan: Ukraine will participate in the future mission of NATO after 2014

Ukraine became one of the six countries NATO partners who have declared their willingness to participate in the planning and implementation of a new training mission by the Alliance in Afghanistan after 2014, Wednesday Ukrainian Ambassador to NATO Igor Dolgov.

"Given the new partnership approaches, NATO implemented a new partnership mechanism" 28 +6 ". They are the 28 member countries of the Alliance six of the 22 partner countries involved in Afghanistan who have expressed their willingness to continue their participation in the mission + training, counseling and assistance to + Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF, army and police), "said M.Dolgov.

Adding that the future NATO mission in Afghanistan would be responsible to train Afghan security forces after 2014, when the withdrawal of combat troops in the West.

According to the Permanent Delegate of Ukraine to the Alliance, the six partner countries, in addition to Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden and Georgia.


Ukraine participates in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan since 2007. At the time, an officer of the medical service (anesthetist) was sent to the hospital Lithuanian. To date, the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent in this country has 22 soldiers.
