Indonesia orders three submarines to South Korea

The Indonesian Ministry of Defence announced in early August the official order of three submarines to South Korea. These buildings are type 209/1400, a German model that the South Koreans have learned to build technology transfer for their own navy (9 copies commissioned between 1993 and 2001, 8 built locally). Length of 61.3 meters, the future submarines Indonesian present a displacement of about 1600 tons submerged. Slightly larger than the 209 of the South Korean Navy, they will have eight torpedo tubes.Delivery is scheduled between 2015 and 2018. The first will be made in Korea, Indonesia second part and the third to be built entirely by Indonesian site.

The formalization of this agreement allows South Korea to its entry into the international market for the sale of submarines, through experience with technology transfer operated by the Germans HDW (TKMS).Admittedly, the model
209 is not the newest model of German industry, but we must not forget that the South Koreans also realize, technology transfer, the newest HDW Type 214, three units are already in service.
