Final Delivery of the Corvette Type Visby Version Five

HMS Visby is moored at the pier at Berga; the crew and the guests are beginning to come aboard. The final delivery of the ship by FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces Materiel Administration, to the Armed Forces is entering its final stages.

“There remain several trials and exams before we can start using HMS Visby fully but right now it feels good that the ship is finally delivered to the Armed Forces,” says Anna-Karin Broth, commander of 41.korvettdivisionen, the 41st Corvette Division. This unit, one of four divisions of the Fourth Naval Warfare Flotilla, will operate the Visby-class corvettes.

Two Visby-class corvettes are planned to be included in the Fourth Naval Warfare Flotilla.
We are currently training crews for the next ship that is very high-tech. Its 43-strong crew of officers and ratings must have solid training to handle the ship and its systems, says Anna-Karin.

The ceremony begins on HMS Visby's helipad, and the fine weather continues. All participants have been working for the same goal, to get the corvette Visby ready to start projecting power.

“The vessel has repeatedly demonstrated outstanding results. I look forward to soon begin using its capabilities as intended,” says Anna-Karin.

With its length of 73 meters, HMS Visby fills almost all the pier. She does not look like an ordinary ship, and she is not an ordinary ship.

Having all of its capabilities – firing missiles, hunting mines, and the ability to detect and combat submarines - in a single hull makes the ship truly unique. Then add the ship's shape, which makes it very difficult to detect on radar:

“You've been long overdue and are very welcome, HMS Visby.”
