Cassidian Executive Joins EADS Executive Committee

The new head of the Cassidian defense and security division, Bernhard Gerwert, has been appointed to the EADS executive committee, the European company said in a Sept. 6 statement.

Gerwert was made chief executive of Cassidian Sept. 3 with immediate effect, succeeding Stefan Zoller, who left the company “to pursue new professional challenges,” the company said.

Zoller’s departure resulted from strategic differences with EADS Chief Executive Tom Enders over the direction of the Cassidian division, company executives said. Zoller had focused on emerging markets Brazil and India, which are long-term prospects, neglecting relations with Britain and France, and reorganized the division on a “multi-domestic” model but undermined that regional approach with a central control in the German headquarters of Cassidian, executives said.

The defeat of the Eurofighter Typhoon by the French Rafale in India was also blamed on Cassidian’s campaign.
