Indian Navy Looking For New Light Helicopter As Well as Sea King Replacement

The Indian Navy is looking at spending up to $1 billion for 56 new Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) to replace the its ageing Chetak (Alouette) choppers, The Times of India is reporting. The request for proposal was recently issued and calls for 56 helicopters, three simulators, 28 spare engines, and associated equipment. Delivery must be started within eight years of the signing of the contract, according to the Times.

Sikorsky, Eurocopter, AgustaWestland, and Kamov are reported to be interested.

India also plans to spend $2.5 billion replacing its Sea King helicopters, the newspaper noted. Details of that project are still being finalized.
