Warsaw wants to create a missile defense system with Paris and Berlin


Poland wants to create its own missile defense system in cooperation with France and Germany and other allies, said Saturday the Polish Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak the Polish Press Agency.

"We want to do in cooperation with France, Germany and other allies of Poland. NATO supports these initiatives to achieve a certain overall level of defense. This is an" intelligent defense . "This cooperation is needed when the projects are so expensive," said M.Siemoniak.

The creation of a Polish missile defense system would cost between $ 3 and $ 6 billion, according to the minister.


Government projects based on the development program of Polish armed forces approved by the President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski in November 2011. Air defense, including missile is among the priorities of the program.

In early August, President Komorowski said that Poland should develop its own missile defense shield as part of NATO, before labeling error political participation of the U.S. missile project in Warsaw.

In 2008, Poland agreed to host on its territory bases SM-3 interceptor missiles. The first elements of U.S. missile defense system will be deployed in 2018.
