British criminal investigation of EADS in Saudi Arabia

The Office UK fight against financial crime (SFO) has launched an investigation into the activities of a subsidiary of EADS in Saudi Arabia, said Friday the European aerospace and defense. "We were informed by the British SFO to the official opening of an investigation related to certain aspects of Saudi Arabia GPT Special Project Management Ltd., a local subsidiary of the EADS group" working for the Ministry of Defence told AFP a spokesman of the group in London. "We will continue to cooperate fully and constructively with the SFO," he said, without wishing to make further comment until the investigation is ongoing. The SFO has for his part said on its website it had launched a criminal investigation into GPT in Saudi Arabia, without giving further details.

GPT is a subsidiary of Astrium division of EADS in space, that supply of secure satellite communications. The British newspaper Daily Telegraph reported in May 2011 that the SFO EADS suspected of having bribed Saudi officials to help achieve a 2 billion pounds (2.5 billion euros) on systems communications. Saudi leaders have been luxury cars, jewelry and money, according to the conservative newspaper.
