AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, has signed partnership agreements with Firstec Co., Ltd, a company engaged in the provision and support of defense and security equipment and systems, and Dodaam Systems Co., Ltd, a company engaged in developing training systems for simulation in the defence industry.
Both companies are committed to offering the highest level of support services to military in the Republic of Korea. The signing of MOU’s between AgustaWestland and Firstec and AgustaWestland and Dodaam is the first step in providing dedicated service and training centres for the military helicopters in Korea.
Geoff Hoon, AgustaWestland’s Managing Director for International Business said “the MOU’s covering integrated logistics support and training services provide opportunities for AgustaWestland to deliver enhanced through life support to operators such as the ROK Navy.
The most important part was selecting the right partners and AgustaWestland is delighted to have the opportunity to work with both Firstec and Dodaam who will offer excellent value to the partnerships by providing maintenance and repair services, spare parts inventory management for military helicopters and a series of dedicated training solutions to the military services.
AgustaWestland has a longstanding and well established presence in the Republic of Korea with around 40 helicopters of various types already in service performing a range of military, parapublic and commercial roles. A total of 23 Super Lynx Mk.99 and Mk.99A helicopters are in service with the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) performing ASW and ASuW missions. The second batch Super Lynx programme established an important industrial cooperation with local industry which was further expanded when the first batch of Super Lynx MK99 helicopters were upgraded to the Mk.99A.
In addition to the supply of AW109 family and AW119Ke helicopters to the Korea National Police Agency (KNPA), AgustaWestland has experienced success in introducing the AW139 medium twin helicopter into Korea. The AW139 is the world market leader in the medium twin engine class and the only new generation aircraft in its category. With over 650 units ordered in more than 50 countries to over 170 customers, the AW139 has found rapidly growing success in the Republic of Korea with nearly ten helicopters purchased so far, with sales to the Korea Coast Guard for Maritime Patrol, SAR and EMS missions, Gangwon, Gyeonggi and Incheon Prefectures for Fire Fighting, and to Samsung for Corporate and VVIP transportation.

The AW159 has been designed to meet the requirements of all Maritime Operational Operators and with its enhanced performance, mission capability, state-of-art avionics and equipment. The AW159 together with AgustaWestland’s enhanced industrial support programme will meet all of the Republic of Korea’s Maritime requirements and will deliver value to the Korean Government.
